People of Mount Gambier and the Limestone Coast have until August 25 to get their final Royal Copenhagen fix before the much-loved ice creamery, dessert bar and cafe closes its doors for the last time.

The owners of Royal Copenhagen Mount Gambier, Marj and Tony D’Agostino – who have been running the business on Commercial Street East for the past decade – have announced the store will shut on August 25.

“To all our valued customers, we would like to let you all officially know that Royal Copenhagen Mount Gambier will be closing its doors as of Sunday, August 25, 2024!” their announcement read.

“We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has joined us on this incredible journey over the last 10 years. We’ve shared countless memories and experienced so much together.

“Now, the time has come for us to part ways with the Mount Gambier community. Thank you for your support and for being part of our story.”

Customers can use outstanding vouchers until Saturday, August 24.

The news was met by much sadness and well-wishes for the couple’s future by the Mount Gambier community – many lamenting the loss of their favourite dessert, coffee and breakfast/lunch spot.

“Thanks for offering to Mount Gambier somewhere so good for families, for great food beyond the normal Copenhagen franchise, and for always being friendly and supportive of young people. Enjoy your next chapter,” one commenter shared.

“A wonderful achievement and what a great legacy you have left. Take a bow, well done to you both,” said another.

Elders Real Estate Mount Gambier said the business had been purchased and teased that the new owners had exciting plans for the site.

“Watch this space Mount Gambier – new name, new owners,” their post said.
