A young rider who uploaded the dangerous hoon riding that almost claimed his life to TikTok is hoping to educate future riders in a bid to see them avoid his mistakes.

A motorbike rider on his L-plates is lucky to be alive after his hoon antics caused him to lose control and crash.

Jarred Phillip Tirabassi, 20, was slammed for his actions that “boggles the mind” and could have had potentially lethal consequences, a court has heard.

After avoiding a potential 14 year licence disqualification and possible jail term — Tirabassi spoke to The Advertiser outside of court.

Tirabassi said his near death experience, coupled with his court journey, had been a “real wake-up call”.

“I want to make sure that people stop riding the same way that I did,” he said.

“If you feel like riding like this, just consider the risks that are involved and consider just paying for a track day.”

The court heard Tirabassi had no intention of riding on the roads in the future, even after his licence disqualification ended and would instead limit his riding to the track.

Tirabassi plans to work with RiderSafe to speak to teens aged 14-16 about his experiences in an effort to see them avoid his mistakes.

The Mount Gambier Magistrate Court previously heard Tirabassi came to police attention in August 2022, after he was clocked at 167km/h along the Riddoch Hwy.

Police discovered Tirabassi’s further hoon related offences when they seized his helmet mounted GoPro after he crashed while executing a wheelie just outside the Mount Gambier CBD on January 25.

A police prosecutor told the Mount Gambier Magistrate Court Tirabassi had blitzed the speed limit on several occasions between August 2022 and January 2023.

Following the crash, Tirabassi uploaded the reckless behaviour to TikTok before deleting the account.

On numerous occasions the L-plater recorded himself flouting the speed limits and performing wheelies often travelling at over 100km/h in residential areas.

Tirabassi recorded himself blasting through the Mount Gambier Marketplace carpark hitting speeds of 87 km/h while in a 10km/h zone, on January 25, 2023.

Later that night while travelling along Jubilee Highway West at 124km/h, Tirabassi performed another wheelie.

However, after bringing the front wheel down, Tirabassi grabbed his front brakes causing him to lose control.

He suffered multiple fractures including to his wrist, toe and his collarbone in two places — muscle from his leg was ripped out, with Tirabassi also receiving a brain bleed that caused a serious concussion, the court heard.

Tirabassi pleaded guilty to four counts of driving at a dangerous speed, driving in a reckless manner, two counts of aggravated driving at extreme speed and three counts of contravening a condition of a learners permit.

Magistrate Koula Kossiavelos slammed the young rider, telling him he was “lucky to come out alive”.

Ms Kossiavelos warned Tirabassi he could have lost his licence for 14 years — though she limited it to six fearing any longer would be “crushing”.

Tirabassi was also handed a 12-month term of imprisonment, that was suspended on a two-year good behaviour bond.
