A love of dogs has turned into a passion of grooming for Mima Terzic who has now been crowned South Australia’s best dog groomer for a second year in a row.
The 34-year-old has been working as a groomer since she was 18, but it wasn’t until she turned 24 that she decided it was time to go out on her own.
“I haven’t looked back,” the mother of three said. “I love following my passion.”
Ms Terzic said her passion for the job comes from her love of dogs.
“I’ve always had dogs … I love them,” she said.
“I always wanted to be a vet when I was younger but grooming caught my eye.”
The business owner, who now has three children until the age of 10, said work-life balance can sometimes be hard to achieve.
“It’s been crazy trying to juggle kids and work but you work around it,” she said.
Ms Terzic said one of her favourite things about the job is the relationships she makes with her clients.
“I love chatting to people … you’re not just a dog groomer, you’re a friend,” she said.
“My favourite thing about it (the dog grooming) would be the styling.”
The mother-of-three said she encourages anyone interested in the field to give it a try and get involved in any way they can.
“It’s a really good business to do,” she said.
Ms Terzic said she was “over the moon” when she found out she had been crowned the state’s best dog groomer not once, but twice.
“I’m so excited, I didn’t think I’d win again,” she said.
“(The recognition) is a beautiful thing to have.”
The dedicated groomer, who is currently on maternity leave with her five-month-old child, is still working two days a week and will be returning to four days a week early next year.
