South Australia’s best sparky for 2023 said it was an honour to be given the title after having only had his business for under two years.

Fraser Neill, of Fraser’s Electrical SA in Seaton, said he was inspired to go out on his own after almost 17 years of working as an electrician for someone else.

“Working for others was dragging me down … I just wanted to give it a go,” he said.

After a little bit of deliberation, Mr Neill decided to establish Fraser’s Electrical two years ago.

“I only just started on my own,” he said. “I’ve been pretty successful so far.”

Mr Neill, who works alongside his wife, said he has already had lots of return customers and positive feedback.

“At the moment we’re pretty busy,” he said.

“I’m pretty happy with how it’s going, I think I’m a fair priced person.

“I get things done and think things through fairly well.”

Mr Neill said he is a one-stop shop equipped with various skills including airconditioning installation.

“At the moment we’re pretty busy.”

The 49-year-old electrician, who took a short break to work in aged care in Clare, said his favourite thing about the job is getting out and about.

“I like using my hands and getting out and about and doing things,” he said.

“I like meeting new people all the time.”

Mr Neill said the most rewarding part of the job is when he admires his completed work.

“When I stand back and look at lots of downlights or a nice light fitting, it’s pretty satisfactory.”

Mr Neill said the only part of the job he didn’t enjoy was the high risk stuff.

“Everything is pretty good apart from climbing up on roofs,” he said.

The new business owner said he was chuffed to hear he has been crowned South Australia’s best sparky.

“I’m pretty happy … it’s great,” he said.
