The next stage of the $400 million Glenside housing development is set to go ahead after a six-storey apartment building received the tick of approval.
The State Commission Assessment Panel (SCAP) approved development plan consent for the $18 million six-storey residential building at its Wednesday meeting.
Plans lodged with SCAP by developer Cedar Woods show the Banksia Street building would comprise of 51 apartments as well as car and bike parking.
Burnside Council was generally supportive of the layout and appearance of the development, according to a SCAP report.
“However, it (the council) believes there is a shortage of visitor car parks, with those to be provided in Banksia Street having the potential to be taken up by parking demand generated by future development stages and other external factors,” the report read.
Plans show 59 off-street parks would be provided on levels one and two of the building with 13 on-street visitor parks adjacent to the building.
Levels one and two would also host one, two and three bedroom apartments with the remaining four levels made up of just housing.
Cedar Woods began preliminary works on the 16ha Glenside site in June 2017.
The first residents moved into Glenside’s ‘Botanica’ apartment block in July this year.
The second – ‘Grace’ – is due to be finished in mid-2021.
Approximately 1000 homes are planned for the development which is expected to be completed in 2028.
A Cedar Woods spokesman said the number of apartment buildings at Glenside hasn’t yet been finalised as the project masterplan will continue to evolve.
