Study and a focus on entering medical school have been Sophie Ludbrook’s priorities over the past year, but making the final of the Australian Supermodel of the Year competition is a brilliant second best.
The Scotch College graduate is in Bali this week, competing against five rivals for the title that can launch an international modelling career.
“Modelling is exciting and something to have fun with and this competition has been great,” Sophie says.
“It’s highly competitive, but we’ll see how we go.”
After achieving an ATAR of 99.95, Sophie will study at Adelaide University this year, although she had the pick of the nation’s best medical courses.
“I’m very happy to be going to Adelaide (university),” she says.
“I get to stay with my horses and have my support network here.”
A state representative in show jumping, the 19-year-old, who grew up on a farm, will be dressed in Bali by Glamourhouse Boutique at North Adelaide.
Signed with Powell Models, she began modelling part-time three years ago and was the 2017 Miss World South Australia, attending the Miss World Final in Melbourne.
She then headed overseas on holiday before returning to Adelaide and Scotch College to study maths, chemistry, biology and English to ensure her top university entrance score.
She has been fundraising for mental health support group Beyondblue as part of the Australian Model of the Year competition, collecting more than $1500.
“I’ve hosted a community walk and horse ride in the local forest and I’m keen to continue this work in the future,” she says.
The winners will be announced in Bali this weekend.
