Bold and beautiful, Adelaide supermodel Akiima is destined to be one of fashion’s brightest stars in 2019.
The 23-year-old, who came to Australia as a child refugee from Kenya, is featured in Vogue Australia ’s “Brighten Up” fashion editorial in the magazine’s January issue.
Akiima is the only model showcased in the 10-page spread, styled by Katie Mossman and photographed by Jason Kibbler, showcasing high-end labels such as Versace, Gucci, Prada and Saint Laurent.
It’s not the first time Akiima, who was discovered by Adelaide agency Finesse Models Australia less than two years ago, has appeared in Vogue Australia.
Last year, the former aged care worker was on the cover of the groundbreaking April edition.
Celebrating
diversity, “The Faces: Uniting Australian Fashion” cover featured Akiima, Chinese-Australian Fernanda Ly, indigenous-Australian Charlee Fraser and transgender woman Andreja Pejic, who was born in Bosnia.
Vogue Australia editor-in-chief Edwina McCann told The Advertiser Akiima was the “catalyst”.
Based in New York, Akiima has appeared in Vogue magazines worldwide and walked for top fashion houses, including Chanel. She was also chosen to star in MAC Cosmetics’ “Shiny Pretty Things” holiday collection campaign with another Finesse talent, Adelaide’s Lily Nova.
