A young father who was jailed for deforming his partner’s face is trying to avoid further time for other violent attacks.

Korbin Blane, 20, cut open a woman’s head after he threw a glass bottle at her for refusing his partner a cigarette.

Blane was jailed last week for two years and two months, with a non-parole period of 13 months after pleading guilty to causing harm with intent and dissuading a witness.

The sentence was backdated to Blane’s arrest in September last year, meaning he will be eligible for parole on October 2 this year.

Magistrate Ben Sale told the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday he would need quite some persuading not to push back Blane’s release date, as these charges were also very serious.

“In particular the one in Rundle Mall where Mr Blane seems to have thrown a glass bottle sufficiently hard as to cut open an innocent woman’s head,” he said.

“For her terrible crime of refusing to provide … the victim in relation to his District Court matters with a cigarette.”

Mr Sale said that assault was “particularly dangerous” offending and Blane seemed to be “quite a violent young man”.

The court heard the two other assaults were on workers at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in July last year.

The Elizabeth father pleaded guilty to assault causing harm and two counts of assaulting workers.

During his District Court sentencing, the court heard Blane was staying in an Adelaide apartment with his then-girlfriend in September 2022 when, in a jealous rage, he launched a violent attack against her.

Blane’s 18-year-old partner was unconscious before he broke her nose in two places.

“You had been drinking while the two of you were out together. You became jealous and angry,” Judge Paul Muscat said.

“As your partner regained consciousness and was lying on her side, you kicked her twice to the face with your right foot.”

The court then heard Blane had become so enraged that she was “bleeding everywhere,” that he then punched her again.

Judge Muscat said Blane had asked his girlfriend to communicate with him while he was in custody, but had threatened to take his own life if she didn’t withdraw the charges against him.

Blane, who grew up with his father in Port Augusta, started using methamphetamine at the age of 15, which contributed to his anger issues, a psychologist found.

On Monday, Mr Sale adjourned Blane’s charges until later this week.
