A CITY pub popular with legal eagles and university students is up for sale.
The Saracens Head, on Carrington St, has been put on the market with a price tag of $3.5 million.
McGees Property sales executive Rory Butterworth, who is selling the 144-year-old pub on behalf of owners The Bloody Mary Group, said interest had been pouring in from potential buyers.
“It was quietly put on the market before Christmas and there was an offer of $3 million, so we are not far off,” Mr Butterworth said. “It has a lot going for it because of all of the (housing) development going on around here.”
The impending sale follows the closure in 2016 of another popular Carrington St pub, Hotel Wright St.
A group of Chinese investors, which bought the heritage-listed hotel, has approval to build an 18-storey office tower behind the pub.
Mr Butterworth said a similar scheme was unlikely at the Saracens Head due to a lack of surrounding space and the hotel’s long-term licence.
