Adelaide’s Crazy Horse strip club really is getting ‘better and wetter’ with $9m renovation

HINDLEY St “gentlemen’s establishment” the Crazy Horse is getting a $9 million facelift — putting it in pole position to become Australia’s largest strip club.

Featuring a rooftop pool and bar, dining options and up to 28 VIP rooms, the venue will also house the luxurious Sahara Noir bar, stocking over 1000 drink varieties ranging from French champagne, spirits to imported and local beers.

Set to unveil its new look in November, owner Charlie Flehan says the development will provide a much-needed breath of fresh air for the notorious CBD precinct.

“I’m hoping it will help change the face of Hindley St,” he said.

“People see it as run-down and dingy. Doing something new and fresh along the street will hopefully encourage more people to do the same.

“It’s not just good for us, it’s good for Hindley St.”

Mr Flehan says the $9 million redevelopment will make it the biggest strip club in Australia but it’s no longer just for a “boy’s night out”.

The rooftop bar will focus more on food and beverage service rather than the entertainment, which will remain downstairs.

“The roof will be for drinks and there will be food options too,” he says.

“We’ll see how the pool goes during summer but there are no plans for that (entertainment) on the roof ... everyone is welcome, it’s not just for the guys.”

The pool is much bigger than many would expect at more than 12 metres long and five metres wide.

With a touch of irony, the Crazy Horse is famous for its old slogan “getting better and wetter”.

With a rooftop pool, the venue will now live up to its slogan.

A section of the pool will also extend out over Hindley St by an estimated 90cm.

The business will remain open as works are completed but when finished, Mr Flehan believes the world-class venue will bring in more big names in the stripping business.

“The upgrades will attract even more showgirls from overseas,” he said.

“There are a number of well-known performers from the US and Holland along with Britain who will be here for the opening.”
