A man accused of brutally bashing another male at Adelaide High School has been charged with murder.

It follows the death of the 24-year-old Ridleyton victim at the Royal Adelaide Hospital on Saturday.

He had been in an induced coma with serious brain injuries for more than a week.

Police, in Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday, upgraded a charge of aggravated assault causing serious harm to murder.

The 23-year-old accused’s lawyer, Stacey Carter, also withdrew a bail application.

Suppression orders prevent both the victim and alleged attacker being named.

Police allege the victim was lured to the carpark of Adelaide High on the night of Friday, August 28, and “set upon” by a group of men in a “vicious” attack that left him on the brink of death.

Police are yet to make any other arrests.

It is believed the victim also visited the Welland Shopping Centre carpark on Port Road earlier in the evening.

Detectives are still piecing together what happened that night and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

The matter will return to court in November.
