Rymill Park has been earmarked as the preferred location for an inclusive city playground to honour Quentin Kenihan.
Adelaide City Council staff have pinpointed the eastern parkland as the leading spot for a playground catering for people of all abilities.
The playground, which will be named after Kenihan whose courage captured the hearts of a nation before he died, has been a joint push between the council and the State Government.
Lord Mayor Sandy Verschoor told The Advertiser the location was yet to be 100 per cent locked in but the council would make a final decision shortly.
“It’s a priority on the agenda for the State Government and the City Council to do this,” she said.
“We have been working through some locations … this will be quite extraordinary and fulfils that level of accessibility Quentin pushed for which will be great.”
Deputy Lord Mayor Houssam Abiad said it would be a fitting legacy for Quentin, who was in the midst of a tilt for Town Hall when he suddenly died.
“It was something that he was really passionate about,” he said.
“The most important step is to consult his family about what they would like to see.”
The disability advocate, writer and actor passed away last October, aged 43.
