Polair have detected a man allegedly driving more than 60km/h over the speed limit on a major highway.

The aircrew spotted the Toyota Camry travelling 142km/h in a 80 zone on the Lonsdale Highway after midnight on Monday.

The car travelled along Brodie Rd at Morphett Vale where it hit a roundabout and came to a stop. Patrols were able to catch up to the vehicle and placed the driver, a 28-year-old Hackham West man, under arrest.

The man refused to provide his details to police and was taken to the Flinders Medical Centre for a medical assessment and to have bloods taken.

Police searched the man’s vehicle and allegedly found an amount of drugs suspected to be GHB.

He is expected to be charged with driving at dangerous speeds, aggravated driving without due care, hindering police and failing to provide details. He may face further charges pending blood results.

The 28-year-old lost his licence on the spot for 12 months. The car was towed from the scene and impounded for 28 days.

It comes after another driver was caught by PolAir allegedly speeding 70km/h over the speed limit late on Saturday night.

PolAir was patrolling the skies about 10.20pm when they saw a white Volkswagen Golf travelling at high speed down Morphett Rd at Kurralta Park.

The car then travelled through backstreets where PolAir clocked it allegedly getting up to speeds of 130km/h in a 60km/h zone.

PolAir was able to direct patrols to Cross Tce where the car was dumped by the driver who then ran north to Garfield Ave.

Patrols chased the 45-year-old man from Blackwood on foot and arrested him a short time later.

The man has been charged with drive at extreme speed, drive disqualified and possess prohibited weapon after a taser was found in a big in his possession.

The car was towed from the scene and has since been impounded.

The Blackwood man did not apply for bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.

It follows a spate of drivers behaving badly. Last week, an unlicensed motorcyclist was clocked allegedly reaching more than 100km/h in a 40km/h zone while high on drugs.

The 30-year-old man from Balhannah was originally seen on a Honda motorcycle by patrol vehicles just before 8pm on Wednesday, allegedly travelling 155km/h in a 110km/h zone on the South Eastern Freeway.

Police did not pursue at the time for safety concerns, but the rider was later reported travelling at 100km/h through roadworks in the Heysen Tunnel where speeds were reduced to 40km/h.

On the same night, a drunk driver almost two times over the limit flipped his luxury Ford Mustang on South Rd near Royce Ave at Croydon Park, while a BMW driver was spotted driving 120km/h in a 60km/h along Grand Junction Rd before the car was dumped at Semaphore Park.
