A dad treating his kids to McDonald’s for dinner on Wednesday made an unfortunate discovery after they drove off with the food.
Gawler man Lachlan Binder was appalled to see what appears to have been a cluster of feathers in McDonald‘s new ‘Southern Style Chicken’ range.
The father of two said it was a massive surprise.
“I just wanted to try McDonald’s new fried chicken so I ordered one piece, but I realised quite quickly there were feathers hanging out of it, it was hard to miss,” he said.
It comes as South Australia becomes the only state to receive the new fried chicken range, with all other states missing out on the initial roll out.
It’s the first time the fast-food chain has offered chicken pieces in their signature Southern Style coating, in Australia.
“I called McDonald’s who said it shouldn’t have feathers and it was not okay, they offered me a free piece of chicken, I declined,” Mr Binder said.

While his two young sons enjoyed their happy meals, Mr Binder said he would not be buying the chicken again.
“I didn’t eat all the chicken just couldn’t stomach it, I know chickens have feathers but you just don’t expect to find them on fried chicken.”
A spokesperson for McDonald’s said the fast food restaurant takes its food safety and quality very seriously.
“We follow strict product inspection and preparation processes to ensure the quality of our food and we are working with local suppliers to investigate the cause of this feather,” they said.
The Southern Style Chicken will be available in South Australia until July 27.
