An Adelaide Hills cafe has once again proven itself one of the region’s most popular spots by taking out the vote for best brunch.
FRED Eatery at Aldgate was crowned the winner in our Delicious Local poll, attracting almost 50 per cent of the vote, after only weeks ago winning the area’s best cafe.
And the win was fitting timing, with FRED Eatery celebrating its sixth birthday on March 24.
Owners Todd Langley and Aaron Bond both had extensive hospitality experience before opening the cafe at 22 Mount Barker Road in 2015.
“We were looking seriously for a place to open a cafe for about 12 months, but nothing ticked all the boxes,” Mr Langley said.
“But we just loved the energy at Aldgate and as soon as we walked in to this location, we said ‘this is it’.”
The cafe is open from 7.30am to 4pm Tuesday to Sunday and from mid-April, FRED Eatery will be bringing back its Friday night dinner service, which was stopped during COVID shutdowns.
Diners have a range of options for brunch, with the cafe running three menus – an early breakfast from 7.30am to 11.45am, all day breakfast from 7.30am to 3pm and lunch from 12pm to 3pm.
Mr Langley said one of the cafe’s most popular brunch items is called Happiness in a Bowl – a barbecued pork belly, kimchi and caramel chilli omelette, with peanut and mint salad.
Other popular brunch items include Malaysian Bang Bang – barbecued herb chicken satays with lime leaf risotto cake, peanut and coconut dressing, mint and coriander salad and a soft fried egg – and the always popular smashed avocado.
Mr Langley said it was great to be recognised by the Hills community.
“We have so much support from the people in the Hills, it’s just fantastic,” he said.
Rounding out the top three places to brunch in the Hills were Mainstreet Cellar & Kitchen at Stirling and Woodside Providore.
