Aldgate’s FRED Eatery named best cafe in the Adelaide Hills

A busy Adelaide Hills cafe known for its “sass” has earned itself the title of best cafe in the region. See the top 10 list.

FRED Eatery in Aldgate has plenty to celebrate.

Not only will the popular Hills cafe celebrate its sixth birthday next month but it’s also been crowned the region’s top cafe in our Delicious Local poll, run in partnership with celebrity chef Matt Preston.

The cafe at 22 Mount Barker Road received 25.64 per cent of the total votes, with Green Valley Strawberries in Nairne and Sazon in Mount Barker rounding out the top three.

FRED Eatery co-owner Todd Langley said he was blown away by the win and credited the cafe’s success to its sassy point of difference.

“It’s surprising and quite wonderful and I think the reason why people support us is consistency,” Mr Langley said.

“We’re always trying to improve … and we’ve just created something that you, the customer, are happy to come to and that’s been really important to us.

“A place that’s a little left of centre, on the innovative site and not the same-same.

“A place that’s a little different and has a little bit of sass.”

Ambassador Matt Preston said the search for the nation’s best cafe was just the beginning in supporting local businesses across the country.

“It’s clear from the vast number of nominations and votes we saw come in that local communities are rallying around their favourite eateries; supporting those food businesses who have done it tough over the past 12 months,” he said.
