What is this thing?
If you haven’t heard of it, the Clax Cart is a two-tier trolley which folds down for storage.
At its simplest, the two tiers are bare, however each Clax Cart comes with one matching crate, and a host of other accessories and attachments available for purchase depending on how you intend to use it, including additional crates, caddies for your phone or drink bottle, netted bags for fruit and veggies, and even add-ons for the office or for pets.
The Clax Cart comes mostly pre-assembled, with just a few simple steps to put the final touches on and fold it up and down. It’s a German design - and you can tell.
It also comes in a number of different colours - green, pink, red, black and grey.
It’s designed for bringing with you just about anywhere, from the grocery store, to the office, or a road trip.
But, at $280+, is it really worth it?

For grocery shopping
First off, my partner and I decided to take mine out for a spin at my local Coles to do some shopping for the night’s dinner.
I will admit, prior to having one on my own, I hadn’t seen much about it online, so I was very intrigued as to what it would be like, and how people would react.
My initial reaction was that it was incredibly easy to use.
With this product, you don’t have to gamble with the chance of choosing a trolley with a wheel that wants to go the wrong way, or battle with finding one that’s clean and not jammed inside another one - which can truly make or break a shopping experience.
The Clax Cart is incredibly lightweight and is the perfect size for you to glide from aisle to aisle with ease. We also didn’t get any strange looks on our outing, though I almost wish someone had asked me about it so I could tell them how cool it is (maybe next time?).
The best part about it is definitely the ease of getting your shopping home.
We were able to pack the trolley directly after scanning our items, skipping bags altogether, making it both a cost-effective and sustainable choice. Then, we wheeled it back to the car, and put it straight inside with no dramas.
I imagine this would be especially helpful for parents with little ones, being able to avoid the lengthy process of packing the boot and returning the trolley with kids sitting in the car.
Here, you might be thinking ‘do I really need to buy a new trolley for grocery shopping, when I can just use the ones provided?’. Whilst of course, the answer is no, you don’t need it, I would 100% recommend it if you’re searching for a way to make your life a little easier.
Especially if you’re someone who lives within walking distance of your local supermarket, or if you live in an apartment building with a connected grocery store, I think this could be the perfect solution so you don’t have to lug your eggs and milk back home in heavy shopping bags.
I’m also giving it some bonus points because it comes in pink!
For Christmas shopping
Kidspot’s Lifestyle Editor Leah took the Clax Cart out to do some Christmas shopping, and had nothing but great things to say.
“I have seen these all over my social media feed and saw someone out with it at my local farmers market recently too so was so excited to finally get one and give it a go,” she said.
“Already knowing that it would be a game-changer at the markets or even the supermarket for a smaller shop, I decided to give it it's first run while Christmas shopping. I didn't have much to buy but enough for me to have to navigate plenty of bags, possibly a coffee, and two children who would just want to get the hell out of there!
“The set-up is so easy, up and ready to go in seconds and instead of the kids whinging, they were keen to help out and push it around. They particularly loved hearing people say "oh look at their trolley" and I also felt chuffed when someone stopped me and asked where I got it from and if it was any good.
“I was only in the second store for the day and had a handful of items in it but I could already tell her a confident "yes".
‘The trolley is so lightweight that it was easy to zip around and small enough to still squeeze through smaller stores. But most of all, I loved that I wasn't lugging around a heap of bags with sore hands. My hands were completely free and I was able to shop easily.
“The other great part was the ease of bringing everything inside the house. The basket went straight in the boot and then straight out of it and on our kitchen bench, ready for me to empty.
“100% recommend for regular shopping!”
Our final thoughts
The Clax Cart in green is $280, with all other colours setting you back $310. So, it’s certainly not cheap.
However, whilst it’s hardly a necessity, we agreed that it certainly makes your trip to the shops a hell of a lot easier.
The Clax Cart is light, convenient, and easy to use. But, the star of the show really is its versatility.
You don’t have to choose between taking it grocery shopping or Christmas shopping - you can do both. But, you can also take it to work and use it for carting books from one end of the hall to the other. You can bring it with you to a farmers market to pick up your fruit and veggies, where you’d otherwise be struggling with bags for an hour. You could also use it to carry musical instruments, sporting equipment, or plants - anything, anywhere.
One of my favourite things about it is that on the Clax Cart website, you can also purchase its parts individually, so if any part of it happens to break or falter, you can buy just that piece to fix it yourself, without having to fork out money for a new one.
