When you purchase a product which is advertised as being a certain weight, you hope that’s how much you’re really getting, right?
Well, Aussies are just now discovering that when it comes to meat in particular, this isn’t always the case - and not everyone is okay with it.

“Typical!”
An ALDI shopper has taken to the ALDI Mums Facebook anonymously to share their find.
“I had read a while ago that Woolworths meat was only estimated weight, & was always under, so thought I’d test Aldi’s,” the poster said.
“I looked at the containers & some looked pretty miserably underweight, so I picked the largest looking there. On arriving home I decided to weigh it without the container but with the cellophane, it was 473g, with the container on top it was 493g, so, even with the packaging it doesn’t reach 500g.
“I wonder how much the other smaller packages weighed? This is typical of the shrinking food items we pay for but don’t get.”
The Facebook user then encouraged others to jump on the bandwagon and find out how much meat they’re really getting.
“I challenge all you mums to weigh your meat from now on & see if ever the weight is in our favour, that’s from all supermarkets, not just Aldi, & publish it so as to shame them all for robbing us of even a few grams of meat we pay for,” they said.

“Well done”
Some shoppers shared the shopper’s shock, praising them for calling out supermarkets.
“Well done for weighing it , the supermarkets are the winners , not the consumers,” one commenter said.
“It's just getting less and less isn't it 😭,” said another.
“I totally support this post. If it’s estimated why is it never 20 grams over?” a third agreed.
“Just go to the butcher!”
Others, however, thought the few grams missing was no big deal, calling out the reason for the issue, and suggesting solutions.
“I suppose you’re next step is to cook it let all the liquid come out and re weigh it. Seriously 😒. Let’s cry about half a table spoon of missing meat,” one commenter said.
“But you really expect those huge factories that are mass producing this stuff to get it down to the exact weight? 18 grams off the mark is pretty dam close,” another added.
“E is for estimated not about shrinking food. If your that caught up on it take it back lol. Orrrr better yet go to a butcher and buy mince,” said a third.
“It literally tells you on the packet that it’s estimated. Just buy what you think looks like enough and be on with your day. If you’re needing exact measurements for specific recipes, or just want exactly what you want, go to the butcher. It’s really not worth a post imo,” another agreed.
