Former Miss Universe Australia Olivia Molly Rogers has been left with blistering bug bites after a toxic insect attacked her in Bali.
The Adelaide-born influencer was spending time in the tropical island with new boyfriend, model Morgan Waterhouse, when she noticed what she thought was “funky looking sunburn”.
She visited a medical centre on Monday after the marks began “hurting, burning and itching”.
“Turns out it’s from a toxic insect in Ubud,” she posted on Instagram.
“If left untreated it can fester and blister.”
The mental health advocate said she shared her bites “in case someone else notices something like this when in Bali”.
“Make sure you get it checked out,” she warned her 208,000 followers.
The bug that bit Rogers is called the rove beetle and is known locally in Bali as tomcat.
Brushing against or crushing the skin of the bug provokes the release of its coelomic fluid, which contains pederin – a strong blistering chemical.
Sharing a news article, Rogers said what happened to her has been “happening to a lot of people”.
Rogers has been relaxing in Bali for a few weeks now, first with her mum and now with her beau.
This is the eighth time the beauty queen has visited the Indonesian island.
