South Australia’s first cellar door/day spa overlooks vineyards at Longview in Macclesfield

Adelaide Hills tourists can now wine, dine and get pampered at South Australia’s first cellar door day spa. Here’s where you’ll find it.

Are at home baths the new day spa?

Adelaide Hills tourists can relax even more at their next wine tasting, with the opening of South Australia’s first cellar door day spa.

Longview Vineyard in Macclesfield has added the pamper station to its picturesque site, which also includes a cellar door restaurant and boutique accommodation.

The day spa could even be the only one in Australia to be set in a single vineyard setting, says managing director Peter Saturno.

“Just as you relax before or after the treatment, you’re overlooking our vineyard – the proximity is a few metres away,” he said.

“It just adds to the experience of coming to Longview.”

Mr Saturno said the family-owned business took a hit as a result of border closures in the past 12 months, but “there’s a lot more energy out there now, which is really exciting.”

“There's more movement between states,” he said.

“We do so many weddings here, so we’ve got that flow-on of people staying, but we’ve been planning something different like this for some time.”

While other day spas exist in wine regions across SA, such as Endota Spa at Novotel Barossa Valley Resort, this is the first within an owner-operated vineyard and cellar door setting.

Specifically, the spa overlooks the pinot noir vineyard.

Day spa manager Krystal Raymond, who has worked in London as well as the original Endota in Rundle St, said the experience was unique.

“You can come just for an hour massage, but stay longer, which I think is going to be the drawcard,” she said.

“You can overlook the vineyard and order a platter and glass of wine – you don’t have to go to the cellar door if you don’t want.

“Whether you want to come out to the spa for a pamper or make a girls’ weekend of it, the opportunities are endless.”

The day spa has three treatment rooms, two of which open to a balcony, and the entire space can be hired out. Treatments include massage, facials and nails.

“There is the potential for wellness weekends and recharge retreats because we can all work in conjunction together,” Ms Raymond said.

“You don’t have to go far from the city to have an escape. Wellness can be as much or as little as you want it to be.”

The spa opening follows the launch of Longview’s newest accommodation option, Longview Lodge, which brings its total guest capacity to 44 – the most onsite accommodation of any Adelaide Hills vineyard.
