A new luxury lodge and wellness centre in Hahndorf is set to become an iconic travel destination that could rival the likes of Mount Lofty House.
The Lane Vineyard in Hahndorf has partnered with the Luxury Lodge Group to deliver the $10m project, which includes 20 villas and spa facilities metres from the cellar door.
Guests staying at the Lane Lodge will be offered an array of unique experiences including bushwalking, winemaker masterclasses, wine blending, cooking classes, trout fishing and helicopter tours.
The day spa will be designed and operated by a world-class operator showcasing the latest holistic experiences founded on specialised rituals and curated treatment plans to restore mind and body.
The Lane Vineyard CEO Jared Stringer said the project had been in development for more than 24 months and was expected to create around 50 construction jobs and at least 30 ongoing jobs upon completion in early 2023.
He said the launch came on the back of the Adelaide Hills first dedicated wellness tourism event at the start of the month.
“What’s helped this project along is this whole wellness initiative in the Adelaide Hills, which is very much about that traveller who, perhaps in the post-Covid era, is looking for an escape, fresh air and beautiful views,” he said.
“So that’s why we’re building a super high-end wellness retreat within this luxury accommodation as well, which will be exclusive for guests to use with several treatment rooms, offering lots of different wellness treatments.
“That ties in really nicely with what’s happening in the Adelaide Hills and around the world.
“Outside of Mount Lofty House, there isn’t anything that offers that offers that calibre of accommodation … so having this in Hahndorf, one of the most-visited tourist destinations in SA, will help fill a market gap.”
According to Adventure Travel Trade Association, nature-based tourism is forecast to become
a $1.3 trillion global tourism segment by 2023.
Capitalising on this consumer sentiment, The Lane Lodge will offer transformative accommodation, with a deeper connection to land, community and improvement of the mind.
South Australian Tourism Commission chief executive Rodney Harrex welcomed the plans.
“We know there is a need for more accommodation in the Hills that entices day-trippers to stay longer and explore more of the region,” he said.
The plans to include wellness experiences are perfectly placed to leverage the Adelaide Hills’ position as ‘the wellness destination of South Australia’ – a sector worth $12 billion in Australia and set to grow more than 20 per cent by 2025.
