Studio Spring’s, Lauren Sebastiani named SA’s best pilates instructor

A co-owner of a popular South Aussie pilates studio has been named the state’s best pilates instructor. See the top 5.

The ‘women's’ workout that’s humbling men

What started as a part time job during university has grown into a multi-studio pilates empire for Lauren Sebastiani.

Eight years ago, Ms Sebastiani had completed her Bachelor of Human Movement and was in her second year of her Masters of Physiotherapy when her passion for pilates started to flourish.

“I was attending classes as a client … maybe like four or five times a week and the owner just approached me and asked when I was going to become a trainer with him and it just kind of steamrolled from there,” Ms Sebastiani said.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Ms Sebastani said she took a break from her pilates teaching and her physiotherapy practice for mental health reasons, but found herself being called back to the studio.

“I just found that trying to do both careers at once was just not sustainable so I went back into just teaching,” she said.

“It was not long after that that my partner basically convinced me to open my own studio, which is where Studio Spring blossomed from.”

The 29-year-old is now the proud co-owner of Studio Spring with locations in Stepney, Goodwood and Henley.

The business has developed a cult following of pilates lovers and prides itself on being more than just an exercise brand, with Ms Sebastiani and her colleagues offering social events to help bring their community together.

“I always wanted Spring to be a place where everyone felt like they could come and fit in, no matter what,” Ms Sebastiani said.

“I feel like there’s so many different fitness institutions around but the ones that people generally remember are ones where they feel like it’s more than just a class, or they’re more than just a number class.”

Earlier this week, Ms Sebastiani was voted South Australia’s best pilates instructor for 2024.

“It’s obviously super exciting,” the top pilates instructor said when The Advertiser rang with the news.

“When I’m teaching classes I want to make sure that clients feel appreciated and seen and valued, so it’s always nice to receive that in return as well.

“It is such a job that requires so much energy output and so much of yourself put into it … so it is nice to receive that recognition in return.”
