Queensland mum furious after receiving ‘rude’ note on day of daughter’s funeral

“Have the guts to come and see us when both cars are parked out the front,” the angry resident said.

A mourning mother has sparked a fierce debate about neighbourly conduct after receiving an abusive note from an anonymous neighbour about her dog.

A resident of Eagleby, a suburb of Logan in Queensland, was on her way home from her daughter’s funeral when she spotted a handwritten note at the front door.

The message caused her much distress, but it was only the beginning.

“I will not shut up my guard dog, get over it”

The handwritten note was the last thing the Logan woman was expecting as she returned home from her dughter's funeral.

Laden with expletives, it read: “Shut up you f**kin’ dog, you f**khead.”

Initially, she ignored the note, arguing that she was not the only resident on the street with a guard dog.

She said there were 10 other barking dogs in the 10 surrounding properties, and they make just as much noise as hers does.

But less than a year later, she received a second note, this time after returning from her brother’s funeral.

“Both notes were within 12 months of each other,” she said, per The Courier Mail

It was recently that the woman discovered a third note.

While there was no indication of who left the note, the Queensland mum believes there is only one culprit.

“I know it is the same neighbour, as it has the same handwriting as the other two notes,” she said.

Furious and fed up by the rude notes, she took to her social media and shared her thoughts.

“I will not shut up my guard dog, get over it,” she said. “I deal with barking dogs [in the street] too.”

Some people online argued that the disgruntled neighbour may be “shift workers trying to sleep.”

However, the Logan mum hit back, saying she’s also “a shift worker who starts at various times of the day and night.”

Then she gave stern words to the person sending the notes: “Have the guts to come and see us when both cars are parked out the front.”

“At the end of the day, the note is rude”

The social media post garnered a mixed response online, with some believing the neighbour’s complaint could have been handled better.

One resident asked, “Do you have just one whingie neighbour, as you state the other neighbours don't see a problem?”

“Some people will complain about the wind blowing a gentle breeze these days because they need to get out of their boring houses and enjoy life.”

Another local said the neighbour’s letter was “gutless communication.”

However, others saw the neighbour’s perspective, one siding with the neighbour and complaining about their own neighbour's dogs incessant barking.

“At the end of the day, the note is rude,” someone commented. “The right [thing] to do is to say something politely after knocking on the door.”

This abusive note comes days after another Queensland resident received a nasty letter giving them a “final warning” about their dog’s barking, describing the pets as “dirty mongrels.”

According to the Logan City Council, dogs that bark for six minutes in an hour or for three minutes in half an hour between 7am and 10pm constitute "excessive barking."

The council recommends residents who are unhappy with a dog's barking levels should speak to the dog's owner first.

However, if they're not comfortable approaching the neighbour, the council advises residents to "write a friendly note and put it in their letterbox to let them know about the issue."
