Mum claims she was humiliated by flight attendant over baby's dirty nappy

6 tips when travelling with a baby

A mum claims a flight attendant humiliated her mid-air for trying to dispose of her baby's dirty nappy in a bathroom garbage bin.

The flight attendant then personally phoned her after the flight to tell her she had been put on a no-fly list for creating a biohazard.

Farah Naz Khan, 34, said she was travelling on a domestic flight with her husband and her daughter when the ordeal happened.

"He accosted me and made me fish it out of the bin"

The mum recounted the experience to NBC News, saying, "When I walked back to the front holding my nappy wipes container and, like, the pad that we used to change my daughter’s diaper on, the flight attendant accosted me and said: 'Did you just dispose of a nappy back there? That’s a biohazard."

But it didn't end there. Despite Khan's attempts to explain that she had sealed the nappy in a scented bag before disposing of it, the male flight attendant persisted.

He began "yelling" at her and ultimately told her she needed to fish the dirty nappy out of the bin.

She complied but said that rifling through the bin in front of the whole plane made her feel "humiliated" and "belittled."

"You bring your children everywhere. You should just drive places"

After landing, Khan, feeling wrongly reprimanded, filed a customer service incident report, stating that she'd never had any issues in the past with disposing nappies in the plane bins.

Later that day, she said the flight attendant in question called her.

"I recognised the voice. He said, 'Due to a biohazard incident on the plane today, we’ve placed you on the no-fly list'," Khan said.

"This made me very angry, because I suffered the humiliating experience. They are placing me on a no-fly list?

"I also didn’t dispose of the nappy on the plane, even if it was considered a biohazard. I walked it off the plane and threw it away myself outside the flight."

The flight attendant then told her, "You people, you bring your children everywhere. You should just drive places. You really don’t understand that people just want to have a peaceful flight and not listen to your f**ing children."

Khan doesn't believe she was actually put on a no-fly list, and as it stands, she doesn't know how the flight attendant was able to contact her.

The airline has also not reached out or apologised.
