There has long been debate about whether you should pierce your baby’s ears.

Some find it cruel and unnecessary, whereas others believe the baby won’t remember the pain and should get it over and done with.

Mum-of-three, Sandy, has opted for the latter.

After having her own ears pierced as a baby, she decided it was the perfect opportunity to get her four-month-old daughter to get hers done.

In a TikTok, the Canadian mum held her baby, Arianna, on her lap as they prepared for the ear piercing.

“I had to say a prayer,” she wrote on the clip.

She explained why she chose to get her daughter’s ears pierced so young .“It is also recommended to do it earlier so they are less likely to touch and pull on their ears!”

Sandy held her baby’s head in place as staff approached her with the piercing gun. Then two women stepped on either side of the baby and pierced her ears simultaneously.

In an instant, Arianna was in fits of tears.

“Aww my heart,” Sandy wrote. “I can’t see her cry.”

“I had my ears pierced as a baby and I don’t remember it at all”

After Arianna’s ears were pierced, her two older brothers came up to comfort the four-month-old. “Of course, my sons had to come support their little sister,” Mum Sandy said in the clip.

Since Sandy got her ears pierced as a baby, she doesn’t “remember it.” So she was inspired to do the same with her own baby.

“It’s also less likely that your hole will close when you’re older,” she added.

In the comments, she explained the technicians had previously pierced the ears of babies as young as a week old.

“But I think three to four months is great!” she said.

The video has amassed over 44,000 views and sparked a debate online.

“Just let them have the option when they’re older,” a person wrote. “Kid is way too young for this s***,’ added another.

But these arguments were rebuffed by others. “She did so good!” a parent wrote. “Our daughter wouldn’t let us hold her head still.”

“Did my daughter’s at three months,” another mum commented. “Totally agree, it’s better to do it when they're young.”

“Best done early,” another agreed.

“I’m thankful for my mum getting mine done as a baby,” read a comment. “Do you know how annoying healing a piercing can be?”
