Powerball 1404 and Oz Lotto 1521 results: Get the winning numbers for two $30m jackpot draws here

Both Oz Lotto and Powerball have created two instant multimillionaires this week.

The Tuesday and Thursday lotto games both carried a $30m jackpot and each was scooped by a single winner who took home the entire prize – Powerball a player from NSW or the ACT and Oz Lotto a player from WA.

Two South Australians won Powerball’s top prize last month – a Somerton Park man who won $10.6m on March 23 and a Huntfield Heights woman won $4.6m on March 9.

A Whyalla man won $1.8m in Saturday Lotto in March, at the start of January an Oz Lotto player from Findon won $20m, and there were two big local wins in December.

There has also been an unusually high number of big jackpot winners since the start of 2022.

An Echuca woman won $40m on Powerball in February, three winners split a $100m jackpot in December while a NSW player pocketed $50m in November.

Two people each won $63.3m in February last year, a Canberra man scored $60.7m in June, a mum from Snowtown in SA snaffled $40m in September and three winners shared $53.3m each in the record-breaking $160m jackpot in October.

Bear in mind the odds of winning both Oz Lotto and Powerball are far lower than standard lotto.

In Oz Lotto, you need to get seven balls correct out of 47 to win. That means the odds of winning are 1 in 62,891,499 – compared to 1 in 8,145,060 for Saturday Lotto where you only need to pick six balls.

At least Oz Lotto still has much better odds than Powerball, where your chance of winning is a mere 1 in 134,490,400 because a division one win requires you to pick eight numbers correctly.

Powerball is drawn from two barrels. Seven numbers are drawn from the main barrel with balls numbered 1-35, and one Powerball is drawn from a pool of numbers 1-20.

You can cut your odds by buying a PowerHit entry, which guarantees you get the Powerball number, but that of course costs a lot more for a ticket.

But this list of Australia’s 10 biggest lotto winners of all time shows that sometimes incredible good fortune does strike.

In 2019, a Sydney nurse became Australia’s current individual lottery record-holder when she won $107,575,649.
