Klemm Homes named SA’s best builder for 2024

A family building business has been named SA’s best builder ahead of 20 other popular builders. Here they share the secret to their success.

Husband and wife duo Troy Klemm and Carmel Siciliano-Klemm have been in the business of building dream homes for over 25 years.

Their “family business”, Klemm Homes was founded 12 years ago with the pair citing their personalised approach as the key to their success.

“Each one of those clients become like family, and we hold their hand right from the beginning right to the last chair or curtain that goes inside their house,” Mr Klemm said.

“We’re with clients for best part of two years through the whole design and construct process, and at the first meeting a client is meeting Carmel and myself in our own house and we give a personal tour of our own house.”

With Mr Klemm’s background in construction management and Ms Siciliano-Klemm providing interior design knowledge, the couple pride themselves on creating homes that are made for living.

“We really try to dwell in and understand how (our clients) live, and then they work with our architect to try to try to get the best outcome,” Ms Siciliano-Klemm.

“We catch up with clients after because it is that relationship and it is word of mouth with referrals.”

“We even had one client crying at handover because she was not going to get to see her supervisor anymore, she was so used to every second day meeting or chatting or whatever,” Mr Klemm added.

In a heavily saturated market, Klemm Homes values quality over quantity, working on only 15-20 homes a year while providing care and support to their trades.

“I think people forget the tradies and they’re working as hard as they’ve ever worked in their life … so we are constantly popping in just checking in on the trades because if you don’t have good trades you don’t have a good product,” Ms Siciliano-Klemm said.

“We’re probably one of the few builders that the budget that we say is the budget that they end up paying for.”

The Cumberland Park builders have been named South Australia’s best builder with the Klemm family saying that the win is “humbling”.

“We are passionate and we want to build every house as if it’s our own,” Mr Klemm said.

“At the end of there job when you can walk through and hand it over to the clients and everyone is happy and bubbly … it’s a great industry to be in when you have got the right people around you.”
