Spring has well and truly sprung and gardens around South Australia are filled with beautiful blooms.

One Royal Park residence in particular can now boast that they have the state’s most beautiful buds, after Sandy Mojsish’s Double Delight rose was voted the best in South Australia.

Ms Mojsish and her husband moved back to Adelaide from the Queensland in August last year with the retired nurse delighting in our southern state’s excellent rose-growing conditions.

“In Queensland, I had trouble getting roses to grow, but managed to get them to grow in a pot so coming back to Adelaide, was perfect, because of the climate,” Ms Mojsish said.

The 78-year-old has always been a keen garden and has recently renovated her entire back yard to ensure she had enough room to grow her special stems.

“There was a watering system here when we moved into this house and I had the whole lot pulled out because I enjoy watering by hand,” Ms Mojsish said.

“I love spending time in the garden.”

Ms Mojsish regularly tends to her three Double Delight standards which she said have a beautiful perfume.

“(They are) absolutely beautiful and perfect,” she said.

“They’re trying to breed disease out of roses, and by doing that, they’ve destroyed the perfume of a lot of them, really.

“If you find a rose that’s got a perfume, you’re lucky.”

Ms Mojsish said she was looking forward to sharing the win with her Facebook friends who often comment words of admiration of her photos of her flowers.

“I get a lot of comments on Facebook,” she said.

“And if we have people here for lunch and we’re sitting outside, of course, then they can enjoy the actual rose in person.”
