COFFEE | LIGHT MEALS

A Cornish pastie is a must while in the YP Cornish Triangle that comprises Moonta, Kadina and Wallaroo. Try a peppery pastie with softer pastry style at the Cornish Kitchen Bakery in Moonta. Earlybirds can watch them in the making.

Also be early for an excellent finger bun at the Jetty Rd Bakehouse in Wallaroo, a town that’s also home to the North Beach Kitchen where you will find an excellent brunch with a sea view. We also like a beach picnic of panko fish’n’chips from the Stansbury Dalrymple Hotel, wood-oven pizzas at the Marion Bay Hotel, the Minlaton Bakery, and a coffee break at the Minlaton Chocolaterie. At varying times (check online), there’s a line-up for coffees at the cutesy Wilfred the Van, regularly parked in Black Point.

On the EP, Port Lincoln hotspot Fumo28 is popular for its delish seafood curries and local sashimi. Across at Coffin Bay, the best of the best oysters are not to be missed. A casual ale, oysters and super fish and chips cannot be beaten on the deck at the Beachcomber. Stunning sunsets feature at the more upmarket 1802 Oyster Bar, where well-priced platters showcase Boston Bay mussels and good feeds of Spencer Gulf prawns.

For an up-close-and-personal in-water experience, book in for a waist-deep feast with Oyster Farm Tours, or try the new Experience Coffin Bay boat and EP food tours. Further up the coast, sample salt & pepper stingray at Streaky Bay’s Fishfix pop-up food truck on weekends over summer, along with fish plucked straight from nearby waters. Cut across EP to the Five Loaves Bakery at Cummins, supplying the zone with excellent breads bakes, and fine apricot scrolls. Little Tumby Bay is home to French cafe L’Anse, with decadent house-made croque, croissants and cheeky beef Benny. Quelle surprise!

SHOPPING

Many YP cafes, such as Taste The Yorke in Moonta stock an abundance of local produce and baked goodies. In EP shopping hub Port Lincoln, the Fresh Fish Place is a winner for wild-caught sardines, southern squid and all the favourite finned varieties. For a healthy picnic, GLO – Good Living Organics has drinks, meals and treats ready to go. At Whites River, between Tumby Bay and Lincoln, The River Farm is renowned for excellent homegrown farmgate meats, poultry and smallgoods.
