STORIES TO GATHER LUXURY HAMPER
After weeks inside, those winding roads through rolling hills are calling your name but alas, so too are all those unanswered emails.
While a trip out town may have to wait, you can still get a taste of the country with a bespoke hamper by Lia Townsend of Stories to Gather in collaboration with Steve Cordony, Belle Magazine’s Style Director and the owner of Rosedale Farm in Orange.
With an emphasis on edible delights sourced from local producers and artisans, Lia and Steve have curated flavours that reflect some of his favourite elements of wintertime entertaining including a selection of Australian and international cheeses, smallgoods, fresh breads and more.
"At the heart of Stories to Gather is the idea that gathering for a meal is a precious act. It is a time where friends and family come together, share stories and create special shared moments”, says Lia.
“Each (Gathered for You) hamper is curated to bring light and love into your home or into the home of your loved ones, by assembling a selection of thoughtful edibles from passionate makers and artisans.” This limited-edition hamper is only available for delivery on June 21. THE MILL MARKETPLACE
Cuisine: Online Farmer’s Market with fresh farm produce, ready-made meals, cellar door wines and gifts from more than 29 Southern Highlands businesses
“Pivot, don’t pause” that’s the inspiration behind Carousel Lifestyle creator, Jessian Polk’s transition of Bowral’s Farmers Market into a digital farm gate.
Late last year, when The Mill first opened its courtyard each Wednesday, the driving force behind the initiative was to provide a place for local producers, small businesses and the community to come together.
When that was forced to close for many, it also broke their connection to the region. With an online presence, all those stallholders, who once set-up their tables and hauled out their wares — be it home-baked apple pies, truckloads of pumpkins or baskets of baguettes — can continue to trade their products and services.
While you can’t quite browse the stalls tucking into a bacon and egg roll and strong coffee, the customer experience is essentially the same, as you can still pick and choose what you want and leave with it all in one bag.
Grab a bunch of Brillig Farm’s sage for that risotto you’ve wanted to make and maybe thyme for the chicken; don’t forget the risotto rice and a sneaky treat of tiramisu from The General Store & Cafe; there are also those free-range eggs from Musset Holding that are great for breakfast and baking; it’s always good to munch on the seasonal produce in Frank’s Fruit Box; and lastly, some cured corn-beef and a small floral arrangement from The Loch. Oh, and some honey and cinnamon soap from Bulwarra Bees.
Jessian explains how just like a market “everything is picked fresh that morning, hand-selected, put in one box and delivered to your door. Essentially, you pick and curate your own “hamper”.
Even if it is just that one bunch of sage. And a bar of the honey soap.

KIPLING’S GARAGE BAR PTY
Cuisine: Modern Australian for lunch/street food/share plate for dinner
From the famed English poet and writer who gave us The Jungle Book, Rudyard Kipling, also gave us a quote for the ages: “A man can never have too much red wine, too many books.”
Pause and ponder that for a moment. That one line though is the inspiration for Kipling’s Garage Bar, a restaurant by day and wine bar with tapas-style bites by night.
Before the currently chaotic times, Kipling’s was known for lunch dishes such fresh barramundi, Tasmanian salmon, fish and chips and wagyu eye fillet, while dinner was more about street food tapas and true to its namesake, wine — 380 different wines.
Now, however, they’re more about hot, made to order lunches, freshly-made pizza and full family-sized ready-made chilled meals that include sides and desserts.
Sharon Menezes, Kipling’s functions and events manager, says: “After home deliveries commenced …. we added things such as wine, beer and grocery items. There are produce boxes and grocery items available online together with a wine and beverage list for pick up or home delivery.”
Serving the community though, is about much more than just offering food to go, it’s about looking out for one another.
“Once NSW was in full lockdown we also reached out to approximately 10 retirement homes in our local area and have been feeding many residents weekly meals …. this was of great assistance to many who were isolated from family and friends,” Sharon says.
“We have been overwhelmed by the love and support our local community have shown us over the past six weeks. It has helped us through what has been an exhausting and challenging time, especially for our own families who have felt the pressure of the changes.”

FOODBOX BY LA BOQUERIA
Cuisine: Supplier of quality Spanish smallgoods
It all started with a mission, but when Emile Gomez’s Sydney-wide quest for authentic air-dried chorizo and sliced Jamon Duroc proved fruitless, he was left with two choices – give up and settle for meatballs or learn to make it himself.
So off he went to Spain, picking up techniques, recipes and few spices before returning to Australia where he spent the next two years testing and perfecting his artisanal charcuterie.
For your own Spanish journey, La Boqueria has developed Foodbox, an online shop offering four different boxes: the meat box which includes the coveted chorizo and sliced Jamon ($145); the cheese box with bread sticks and quince ($80); the dinner box with meats, rice, beans, peppers and more and a hamper with a selection ranging from air-dried chorizo to chocolate covered almonds.
There’s also the option to add-on some extras, be it an extra jar of quince paste ($3.50) or bulk-buy the premium restaurant-quality Spanish ham, Jamon Iberico de Cebo – a mere $430 for a bit over 4kg. With each box, you’ll also get recipe cards and tips on how to store and care for your products.
