It’s the coolest place to be.
Fans of wine and good times are expected to flock to the final “Refreshment Island” today, a wine tasting event that rolls into an afternoon of music, food and fun in Rymill Park.
“The island is a bit of an oasis; it’s cooler than anywhere else because it’s shaded the entire time and there’s a breeze that comes off the pond and cools everything down,” says Mark Kamleh, who created the series with wine critic Nick Stock. “It’s pretty dreamy.”
Today’s “greatest hits” themed event will showcase wines from around the world – including “lots of cold wines”. “The first two hours of the event is unlimited tastings … with the winemakers or people who import or distribute them,” Mr Kamleh says. “It’s time to find your new favourite wine.” City restaurant Soi.38 will serve food as DJs spin tunes, and rugs will be set up on the lawns for punters to laze away the 39-degree day.
Refreshment Island is among a calendar of events from Wine Country, a company Kamleh created during COVID-19.
“This one has been really fun – it has worked,” he says. “We’ll be back next summer.”
