It’s not only Father Christmas who’ll be delivering the goods on December 25. A number of Adelaide chefs will be serving up their own kind of magic, on what is expected to be a busy day of trading for restaurants that are remaining open.

Adelaide Oval Hotel’s recently opened Bespoke and Five Regions restaurants are among those offering set lunch menus, as well as their usual options for dinner, while Walkerville cafe Local Grind is welcoming walk-ins for breakfast and coffee until 10.30am.

“Christmas Day is bedlam for us,” says Local Grind chef and owner, Adam Rocco.

“People need to deal with their in-laws and outlaws so they’ve got to get their coffee in.”

Restaurant and Catering Australia CEO Wes Lambert said the demand is as strong as ever, as locals who are unable to travel abroad instead spend their money in the state.

“Nationally the Christmas season (Oct-Dec) is slightly over last year,” he said.

“The lack of international tourists will be matched by domestic visitors and the state’s residents as they come out of COVID hibernation, into the summer. We expect a full gambit of hospitality businesses to be open.”
