Tickets are on sale today for Tasting Australia 2021, signalling the return of the popular eating and drinking festival to SA.

COVID-19 put a stop to this year’s event and while ongoing travel restrictions mean no international headliners, high profile chefs from interstate will include Three Blue Ducks’ Darren Robertson – who replaces Jock Zonfrillo as the festival’s food curator – Lennox Hastie (Firedoor, NSW) and Alanna Sapwell (Esmay, QLD).

Also returning to the program is Tasting Australia Airlines, with flights to Coffin Bay and Kangaroo Island, and a revised Town Square.

Tasting Australia 2019 generated a gross spend of $5.4 million for the state – the highest ever recorded for the event – and attracted more than 6200 interstate and 5000 international visitors.

Festival director Simon Bryant said Tasting Australia 2021, on April 30-May 9, would pay homage to the hospitality industry following a tough year.

“With a focus on brilliant homegrown talent … we have created a program that truly celebrates everything we do so well in South Australia,” he said.

Among the 140 events is a Cinco de Mayo Fiesta on May 5 at Pirate Life brewery, featuring traditional Mexican foods from Alejandro Huerta of Chica Bonita (NSW), Hispanic Mechanic head chef Greggory Hill and La Popular Taqueria’s Daniela Guevara.

“It’ll be a very big party,” Daniela says.
