Historic South Australian company St Agnes Distillery has been recognised for its enduring excellence with the top prize at the country’s largest spirits competition.
The Renmark-based business, which celebrates its 100th anniversary next year, was named Champion Australian Distiller at the Australian Distilled Spirits Awards in Melbourne on Thursday night. It also triumphed in the Best Brandy category.
It’s the fifth straight year an SA company has taken out the coveted gong, following wins by Prohibition Liquor (2023) and Never Never Distilling (2020, 2021, 2022).
St Agnes co-managing director Richard Angove said the dual honours were a “testament to the patience, perseverance and craft” of his team.
“We are immensely proud to receive these awards,” said Mr Angove.
“Many hands have carefully crafted these amazing spirits that sit comfortably as exceptional on a world stage.
“The Australian spirits category has gone from strength to strength in recent years and it
has been an exciting time to be part of this industry.”
This year’s awards received 860 entries from over 220 exhibitors, with a total of 50 expert judges tasting on over 1,000 litres of spirits from every state in the country.
St Agnes has previously won multiple awards at the International Wine & Spirit Competition, Tasting Australia Spirit Awards, San Francisco World Spirits Competition, and World Brandy Awards.
The fifth-generation wine and spirits company, also behind Angove Family Winemakers, is one of the oldest family-owned companies of its kind in Australia, and has long been renowned for the production of its brandy.
