Original Pancake Kitchen Modbury closes

Adelaide institution Original Pancake Kitchen is the latest in a string of SA hospitality closures, with liquidators called in amid claims of unpaid rent at one of its venues.

Last call: Adelaide businesses closing their doors

It opened with high hopes on December 13, 2019 when vague talk of something called “coronavirus” was just starting, but now those hopes for Modbury’s Original Pancake Kitchen have fallen as flat.

The latest victim of the food and hospitality industry’s struggles brought on by the pandemic, rising power prices and cost of living hurting customers as well as businesses has been “abandoned” according to a legal notice.

ASIC documents show a general meeting of members of Modburystorm Pty Ltd, formerly trading as The Original Pancake Kitchen Modbury, held on August 5 resolved that the company be wound up and that Daniel Lopresti of Clifton Hall be appointed liquidator.

A legal notice on its doors at the Modbury Triangle Shopping Centre from Stewart-Rattray Lawyers says on or around July 24 the company “abandoned the premises” and owe $33,592.64 in rent.

It demands it be paid “forthwith”

The venue’s website says it is “temporarily closed”. The Original Pancake Kitchen in the city and at Marion are still trading.
