The owners of a popular Adelaide Hills cafe have announced they’re permanently closing its doors next week.
Susa Kitchen, in Mount Barker’s Aston Hills Central Lakes precinct, will hold its final day of trade on Friday, August 23.
Sister duo Taylah and Maddy Canny said the decision to close their second cafe, which they launched in August last year, was “nothing bitter, just sweet”.
They said it would allow them to focus their energies on their “first love”, Lady Luck cafe, also in Mount Barker.
“Susa has given us great perspective on what is important in our life,” the pair said in a post on social media.
“Having time for our family and friends, our mental health, achieving our goals outside of our cafes and our first baby @cafeladyluck.
“This is a reminder for everyone it’s never too late to pivot or change direction for happiness! We’ve chosen the slower lane and are focusing our attention back to our first love @cafeladyluck to make it the best possible version of itself!”
The siblings thanked all their customers who had made Susa a success over the past year, and announced a “beautiful family owned business” will take over the space in September.
Susa Kitchen became a drawcard for the ever-growing Mount Barker area, with its stylishly-designed booths, minimalist whitewash and handmade ceramic kitchenware.
“The natural progression for us was to open a second space. We both grew up in the hills community and couldn’t see a better place to open our businesses,” said Maddison late last year.
Susa’s most popular brunch and lunch dishes include Crispy Fish Sanga, Southern fried chicken Benny, Roast heirloom carrot salad, and Pumpkin hazelnut gnocchi.
