Bottega Bandito
The cult classic is back. Fans of the Italian dessert will love Bottega’s tiramisu version of the hot cross bun, with triple chocolate and stuffed with dual fillings: Marsala and coffee custard.
Their Prospect Rd delicatessen has been a favourite for years but now there’s a micro bakery just off Rundle Mall, serving up these tasty buns, alongside their Italian-style sandos and quality coffee right across the holiday period.
Conveniently, Bottega’s two stores are open from 7am daily, including Good Friday so you should have no trouble securing your own mouth-watering Easter treat.

Banana Boogie Bakery
This nationally-acclaimed business sells a jaw-dropping 100,000 buns in the lead-up to and across Easter each year.
Named Australia’s best in 2023, their range of buns include the traditional variety to their hugely-popular hot cross doughies, which are deep-fried just like a doughnut but spiced and filled with tasty Bavarian custard.
Brought in four years ago, customers regularly line up at 4am just to make sure they can get their hands on one.
This year, their bakers have a new creation: a pistachio filled hot cross bun which will almost certainly be flying off the shelves in the next week. So don’t walk, run!

Kytons Bakery
Not much has changed in the 30-plus years since this award-winning bakery opened their doors.
Their time honoured recipe remains the same, using laucke flour from Strathalbyn and each bun is packed with the best Australian dried fruit.
An Easter staple for many locals, Kytons has become famous over the last 13 years for their collaboration with another SA icon, Menz FruChocs.
Perfectly combining that chocolate apricot flavour with their light, fluffy dough, this hot cross bun is a deliciously indulgent way to celebrate Easter.

St. Louis House of Fine Ice Cream & Dessert
Better known for its ice cream, this SA success story has expanded in recent years to include the hot cross bun.
In 2025, they’re taking the Easter holiday tradition to another level, with a decadent biscoff infused version, designed to latch onto the flavour’s incredible popularity.
The deep caramel and spiced biscoff is turned into a paste and piped into their fluffy brioche buns, topped with a bit of biscoff crumb added for good measure.
If that isn’t enough, sweet tooths can also tuck into their imaginative bueno eggs. This eye-popping concoction feature a hazelnut mousse egg with a bueno centre, drenched in white chocolate and sitting on a gianduja chocolate nest. Drool.

Dough
This French-style patisserie has been serving up their delectable pastries, including chocolate-filled croissants, seasonal fruit tarts will custard and lemon, plus a range of artisanal sourdough bread.
But the star of the show, particularly during the Easter break, is their traditional sourdough hot cross buns.
Each one is handrolled by their skilled bakers, packed full of spices and fruit, the recipe of which remains a closely guarded secret.
Their helpful staff say customers are leaning into their sourdough offerings as a healthier option, and the 20-year-old business is expected to move up to 15,000 buns during this holiday period.
