Historic city pub Benjamin on Franklin relaunched by Adelaide Hills brewery Union Bridge

One of the city’s oldest pubs has reopened following a makeover by the team behind a popular Adelaide Hills drinks brand.

One of the city’s oldest pubs has reopened following a makeover by the team behind an Adelaide Hills drinks brand.

Steve O’Connor and his partner Gerri Milham, from Union Bridge Brewery and Distillery, have taken over the Benjamin on Franklin Hotel on Franklin St, launching the revamped venue on the weekend.

The new Union Bridge on Franklin will showcase the company’s gins, vodka, sparklings, beers and homemade liquors.

There will also be a special Soda Room, where guests can enjoy their adults-only range with flavours such as Creaming Soda, Pine Lime and Cherry Cola.

Executive chef Daniel Brooks has also created a delicious share menu will be available from August 10.

Mr O’Connor said their new city project is designed to be a “sassier, younger sister” to their Cudlee Creek cellar door which they opened in 2020.

“Sip on our unique drinks, savour the exclusive adults only sodas, and soak in the energetic atmosphere. Either way, we have you covered,” he said.

The hotel was built in 1856 as the Sir John Franklin Inn and was also previously known as the Flagstaff Hotel, before it was relaunched as the Benji on Franklin 2010.
