World class wine and cheese will be paired with art and music at a new city venue.
Septimus House of Cheese and Wine will officially open its doors on Wednesday in the old Adelaide Fruit and Produce Exchange building on Grenfell St.
The brainchild of engineer Ian Coker, the two-level venue will feature more than 800 top French and local wines, priced up to $940 a bottle, plus a range of soft and hard cheeses from around the world.
The work of artists will adorn Septimus’s walls while a collection of classic vinyls will also be on rotation, with Mr Coker hoping to create a bar that is a “celebration of culture”.
“Our goal was to create a space where people can come together to enjoy an enjoyable cultural experience in the heart of the city. I’m bringing the best of art, culture and wine together in Septimus,” he said of the space named after Australian artist Septimus Power.
“Whether you’re stopping by for a quick drink or settling in for one of our experiences, we promise that Septimus is equal parts sophisticated and welcoming.”
A board member of the BeefSteak and Burgundy Club, a world-leading wine and fine dining society, Mr Coker said the concept has been a decade in the making.
“I am a wine connoisseur first and an engineer second. I have been passionate about food and wine for a long time,” he said.
“I have worked closely with a range of wineries at a local and international level and it is a privilege to celebrate and unite them under one roof.
“There is a fantastic appetite in Adelaide for spaces that are intimate where people can enjoy the most wonderful assortment of French and South Australian cheeses and wines.”
Septimus, 220 Grenfell St, opens 11am Wednesday.
