Golden, fluffy and tasty waffles are perfect with a dash of golden syrup or, in some cases, with chocolate blocks and fried chicken stacked on top.
If you’re game enough to try some wacky and creative waffle combos on offer around Adelaide, look no further than this list.
From fried chicken and cookies and cream, to Golden Gaytimes and pavlova, these are the loaded waffles you have to try here in Adelaide this International Waffle Day on March 25 – not that you need an excuse to treat yourself!
Commissary Cafe in Rose Park is well known for their delectable and over-the-top brunches, milkshakes and more.
One of their wacky waffle offerings is a huge Golden Gaytime waffle, which includes a whole Golden Gaytime plonked on top of three waffles with honeycomb and vanilla-bean cream.
Commissary co-owner Priscilla Milky said when they opened the cafe in 2016, they wanted to be different.
“We didn’t want to be like any other brunch bar,” Mrs Milky said.
“I said you know what, let’s just do dessert for breakfast and if it works, it works. And we’ve hit the nail on the head.”
Commissary’s pancakes and waffles reign supreme with customers and are all made by Mrs Milky’s mum, Loretta, who is also head chef and co-owner of Commissary along with Mrs Milky’s brother David, and partner Jimmy.
Commissary also offers a Pavlova waffle, topped with ice cream, meringue and fresh fruit. It was first introduced at Christmas last year, but proved so popular it’s stuck.
“For someone who doesn’t want to go full blown sugar coma, we have the pavlova waffle – it’s a refreshing waffle”.
