They came, they saw and they have both now conquered a Brighton cafe’s pancake stack eating challenge – with petite professional eater Katina Eats Kilos pipping her boyfriend and setting a new speed record.
The visiting US foodie couple tackled C.R.E.A.M’s “infamous STACK ATTACK challenge” on Tuesday, the first challenge in the South Australia leg of their month-long Australian trip.
Randy demolished the challenge in 23 minutes and 31 seconds – but it was Katina who stole his thunder Down Under, eating through the huge pancake, bacon and chicken stack in 16 minutes and 16 seconds.
Her time takes her to first on the cafe’s challenge leaderboard, knocking “Big V” to second and her boyfriend relegated to third.
“I’ve been worried about this one,” Mr Santel told The Advertiser after finishing.
“One thing about Australia is the challenges are either big or they have tough time loads – this one was quite sizeable.”
The stack included 500g of chicken, 20 slices of bacon – which the professional eater said he was “most nervous about” – and 1kg of hot cakes with syrup.
He was the third person in six years to complete the food challenge and the first since 2018.
Around 40 fans squeezed into the Brighton cafe waiting for almost an hour for the superstar eater, who has 1.58m YouTube subscribers, to take his place on the table.
Cafe owner Josh Rivers brought the stack out for Randy, who had 30 minutes to demolish it along with a Milo milkshake.
Mr Rivers said the challenge had been going for the last five years and now boasts only a handful of successful winners ever.
“I’ve been chatting with Randy for the last few years,” he said.
“I wanted him to do it because I needed someone else on the wall.”
Losers of the challenge pay the cost of the meal which comes to $65, with winners given the meal for free.
If customers vomit after losing they must pay a $50 vomit fee bringing the total up to $115.
Randy will also perform on Thursday at Mr Rivers’ other establishment, Remy’s, where he will attempt to eat a 12 inch deep dish pizza, chips and beer with a 30 minute time limit.
This was his fifth win in South Australia, winning four challenges in 2017, and his 1160th career win overall.
