Whether you drizzle it with gravy or smother it with cheese, you can never go wrong with a schnitty.

We’ve been on the hunt to find SA’s best and after receiving hundreds of recommendations, the verdict is now in.

Renowned for their monster-sized schnitties, the Macclesfield Hotel has been crowned the state’s newest crumbed king, as voted by our readers.

Owner Justin ‘Yorky’ York, who has been running the pub for almost nine years, was chuffed to take out the top spot.

“Everyone keeps telling us that it’s good, which is awesome,” he said. “It’s a good feeling to know that you’re doing something right.”

Weighing half a kilo on average, the Adelaide Hills’ pub’s mega schnitties have gained a cult-like following over the past two years.

“It’s a real destination place now,” Mr York said. “Pretty much everyone comes to the pub for schnitty. We’ve got lots of other things on the menu but everyone loves the schnitties.”

The key to their success is in the freshness of their house-made chicken, beef and pork schnitzels which are available with up to 13 different sauce and topping combinations.

Crowd favourites include the Three Little Pigs (BBQ sauce, ham, bacon, cheese and pork belly), the Werewolf, It Bites (Sriracha sauce, salami, jalapeños, cheese and chilli), and of course, the parmi.

Their weekly schnitzel night is also a big hit with customers and regularly gets booked out.

Coming in at second place was The Duke of Brunswick with the Wellington Hotel taking out third place.

Lower Light Hotel was voted fourth best, followed by San Marino Ristorante at fifth, the OG Hotel at sixth, and Salisbury’s Maranello Cafe at seventh, which has a cult following for its enormous schnitties.

The Port Admiral Hotel, Para Hills Community Club, and The Lighthouse Wharf Hotel were voted eighth, ninth, and tenth best respectively.
