Powerball’s division one prize tonight was a massive $100m, one of the biggest-ever lotto jackpots in Australia.
A Victorian player and a 10-member syndicate from Sydney won $50m each, just a few weeks after a Sydney dad scooped $100m to become the second-richest Australian lotto winner of all time.

The huge jackpot was because there had been no division one winners in the previous five Powerball draws.
In March, a woman from Huntfield Heights took home $4.6m in Powerball, just two weeks before a Somerton Park man won the next $10.6m jackpot. They were the latest in a series of big division one wins for SA lotto players over the past year.
In the 12 months ending June 30, across Australia there were 503 division one winners from all lottery games who collectively scooped more than $1.59bn in prize money. Just over 300 of those winners became instant millionaires.
In SA, the luckiest postcodes for lotto outlets have been 5118 (Gawler) and 5045 (Oaklands Park) which each sold two division one winning entries.
If you didn’t strike it big don’t be disheartened, the odds of winning the Powerball division one jackpot with a single game are a mere one in 134,490,400.
But this list of Australia’s 10 biggest lotto winners of all time shows that sometimes incredible good fortune does strike.
Powerball is drawn from two barrels. Seven numbers are drawn from the main barrel with balls numbered 1-35, and one Powerball is drawn from a pool of numbers 1-20.
