‘We gave it everything we could’: SA’s MKR team Sonia and Marcus reveal future plans after elimination

SA’s only MKR team of 2023 has been eliminated after making it to the semi-final. But they’re not done yet, with Marcus announcing a new project.

My Kitchen Rules' new fiery SA duo

South Australia’s My Kitchen Rules contestants Sonia and Marcus Costanzo have been eliminated from the show, but it won’t be the last you’ll hear from them with Marcus announcing his new cookbook is coming this week.

The mum and son duo cooked in the semi-final on Monday night under the watchful eyes of celebrity chef Nigella Lawson and the MKR judges Manu Feildel and Colin Fassnidge.

After their departure from the show, in which they came third, the pair took to social media to thank their followers and MKR viewers, and Marcus hinted at the announcement of his completely self-made cookbook, launching this week.

“Well, we got eliminated tonight,” Marcus said in an Instagram story, sitting beside his mum.

“Thank you all for your support.”

Marcus asked Sonia how she was feeling about the elimination.

“I’m relieved that we can tell anyone what’s happened, I really appreciate everyone’s support and your belief in us,” she said.

“I still got my prize, I still got to be in that kitchen with Nigella, that’s a dream come true.”

Marcus said they are both “in good spirits” and gave the whole experience “a good hard crack.”

“There’s nothing more we could have done in this one. We practised, we worked hard, we trained, we gave it everything we could and that’s just how it rolled out,” he said.

“We don’t have any regrets about any of it, I don’t feel upset, it felt like that’s where we probably belonged.”

Sonia went on to say that the remaining teams, sisters Radha and Prabha and mates Christian and Nick, competing in the grand final were “deserving.”

“Either way, thank you all for watching, thank you all for the comments and the love. You’ve made our past few weeks even more lovely,” Marcus said.

“It’s been a great experience and we hope above all it inspires you to get in the kitchen.”

Speaking of getting others inspired to be in the kitchen, Marcus also posted a hint to his Instagram of his next foodie adventures.

A self-made cookbook is on the way from Marcus, to be published on Sunday October 8, with the 23 year old posting a story with fellow food blogger @freakyfeedsaus with a digital cookbook in hand, captioned “something is coming” with the title of the book appearing as “Marcus Costanzo, a self-made cookbook.”

“It’s a self-produced, self-written and published online book shot created out of a garage, featuring 47 recipes from my most popular cooking videos online right now,” Marcus said.

Marcus said Seven producers reached out to him to apply for MKR after seeing his Tik Tok account, which features him reviewing local restaurants and posting recipe videos.
