The former contestant of the popular Australian cooking show MasterChef has taken to social media to encourage people to “listen to your body”, after a recent health scare saw her end up in hospital.
On Tuesday night, Adelaide’s own Mandy Hall took to social media, posting a photo of herself from a hospital bed, saying she had just undergone an invasive heart procedure that she was not expecting.
The cook and fermenter joined Network 10s MasterChef Australia for the show’s eleventh season in 2019, and describes her food style as rustic with a flair for Middle Eastern.
“Early this morning, they popped a balloon stent into my heart to deal with a blockage that had been sitting there like an uninvited guest at the world’s worst dinner party,” she wrote.
“For the last few months, I’ve been dealing with some health stuff.
“I’ve also been trying to get fitter — but every time I did cardio, it felt like a clamp was tightening around my chest.
“I figured I was just unfit and should push through. Spoiler, it did not get better.”
Ms Hall said she spoke to her fitness trainer about her “struggling” in the gym, and that she was going to visit her doctor the week after.
“I was struggling at the gym, then struggling more at home,” she said.
“My amazing trainer told me to stop and get checked out.
“I attempted to wait until after the long weekend (solid 0/10 plan), but three days ago I ended up in (the) emergency (department).”
Ms Hall said she was now recovering after and that she would be “back at it” by Monday next week, but encouraged her followers to get regular check ups with their doctors.
“But here’s the thing: listen to your body,” she said.
“That weird tightness, that discomfort you’re brushing off? It’s not always ‘nothing’.
“And no, colour-co-ordinating your Easter table will not cure it (trust me, I tested that thoroughly).
“Take care of you. Don’t be a hero. Go to the doctor.”
