The Crown star Olivia Colman spotted filming at Exchange Coffee in Adelaide’s East End

Days after she was spotted dining in the East End, this Hollywood superstar was back at a popular Vardon Ave cafe – but it was all for her latest film project.

Oscar winner Olivia Colman was spotted hard at work in a popular East End cafe on Thursday, as filming continued on her latest project.

The beloved Crown star and her fellow cast and crew took over Vardon Ave hotspot Exchange Coffee to shoot her new film.

The busy thoroughfare, which is home to nearby businesses Belgian Beer Cafe, East End Cellars and Enoteca Lounge and Cucina, was shut for most of the day as filming got underway in the recently renovated cafe, just off Rundle St.

Staff at neighbouring shops were excited to have a movie filming nearby but mostly oblivious to Colman’s presence on the set.

It’s understood the Hollywood heavyweight headed next door to the Belgian Beer Bar upstairs to relax in-between takes.

SA film insiders have been tight-lipped about Colman’s visit to the City of Churches, but the Oscar-winner is set to star in twisted romance Wicker with Adelaide regular Dev Patel – also an Oscar nominee – later this year.

Shooting for the film is scheduled for Europe in coming months, with Colman to star as a “smelly, single and perpetually ridiculed” fisherwoman who commissions herself a husband to be made of wicker sticks (Patel).

Outside of filming, Colman has been making herself at home in Adelaide’s East End, on the weekend dining at award-winning restaurant Africola.

The popular East Terrace venue shared a snap of Colman’s lunch visit to its Instagram account.

In 2018, Colman won the Best Actress gong at the Academy Awards for her portrayal of Anne, Queen of Great Britain in the black comedy film The Favourite and, from 2019 to 2020, became a fan favourite for her role as Queen Elizabeth in The Crown.

The 50-year-old is the latest big film-hitter to spend time in Adelaide after Ozark star Julia Garner called SA home for a filming stint last year.
