Ironwoman Candice Warner has warned this year’s batch of SAS Australia recruits the experience will be “like living a nightmare”.
Mother of three Warner, 36, was one of the favourites from the first season of the controversial reality show.
“A lot of the contestants, it will be a nightmare for them, they will be living in a nightmare,” the wife of cricketer David Warner told Confidential.
“I take my hat off to them because that is very courageous especially after seeing what we went through.”
Warner’s comments come as a new group of celebrities commit to a gruelling few weeks competing in various physical and mental challenges as they undertake the SAS selection course. They are under the guidance of elite British ex-Special Forces soldiers Ant Middleton, Mark ‘Billy’ Billingham, Jason ‘Foxy’ Fox and Ollie Ollerton.
Sam Burgess, Erin Holland, Pete Murray, Kerri Pottharst and Jana Pittman are among this year’s competitors.
“You do lose a bit of your dignity, maybe going to the toilet next to someone for example,” Warner explained.
“At the end of the day you forget about that and you are there to do a task and that is what is important, completing that task. They will gain so much from it and it will be the best experience that they ever had.”
AFLW player Sabrina Frederick, radio funnyman Merrick Watts and Nick ‘Honey Badger’ Cummins were the only three recruits to pass SAS selection in the first season.
Warner said the course is as much about mental endurance as physical ability.
“If they can keep it together mentally, it puts them in good stead to be there at the end of the course,” she said. “There is obviously a physical component to it so you need to be able to complete the tasks but mental strength is just as important.”
Others competing this season, which will air on Channel 7 later this year, include John Steffensen, Brynne Edelsten, Jett Kenny, Alicia Molik, Mark Phillipoussis, Isabelle Cornish, Dan Ewing, Emma Husar, Manu Feildel, Heath Shaw and Jessica Peris.
