Erin Phillips is making a radio comeback, reuniting with former on-air partner Mark “Soda” Soderstrom.
AFLW superstar Phillips has left Mix 102.3 and is joining its rival SAFM, where Soderstrom hosts the breakfast show with Rebecca “Bec” Morse.
Phillips famously kicked off her radio career at Mix, where she co-presented brekky with Soderstrom – who reportedly encouraged her to give radio a crack and has been a staunch supporter.
In mid 2022 – after Soderstrom had left the station – Phillips scaled back her involvement in what had become the Ali Clarke Breakfast Show to focus on her professional football career.
At the end of the 2023 season the then captain of Port Adelaide Phillips retired from footy.
The start of 2024 meant changes; Mix rebranded brekky as Max & Ali in the Morning, giving Max Burford first billing over Ali Clarke and quietly dumping brekky team member Shane Lowe.
Phillips contract with Mix was up, meaning she had the opportunity to start over at another station, or rather, stations.
Phillips is joining two of Mix’s rivals – SAFM and its sister station Triple M from March.
She will be heard on SAFM’s Bec & Soda brekky show and Triple M’s drive program, The Rush Hour with Bernie, Blewey and Jars.
Industry insiders says the addition of Phillips to The Rush Hour’s line-up of Bernie Vince, Greg Blewett and Andrew Jarman is a smart move.
Recruiting a female, namely, Laura O’Callaghan to Triple M’s breakfast show – where she more than holds her own next to Mark Ricciuto and Chris Dittmar – has propelled that program to No. 1 in the ratings.
“I’m excited to be getting back behind the mic in 2024 with SCA and to be part of two highly respected stations in Triple M and SAFM,” said Phillips, who will make weekly appearances on Triple M’s drive show, “talking footy, motherhood, and life after being an elite athlete”.
Phillips, who will be a guest contributor on Bec & Soda also said: “I’m looking forward to getting back in the studio with Soda, joining Bec in ganging up on him, and having some laughs and banter with the boys on The Rush Hour.”
SAFM content director Alex Flack and Triple M head of metro content Matthew O’Reilly, both said they were excited to be welcoming Phillips.
“The Rush Hour is the only local drive show in Adelaide and you don’t get much more Adelaide than Erin Phillips,” Mr O’Reilly said.
