Radio presenter Shane Lowe has revealed he was quietly dumped by Mix 102.3 after returning from Christmas holidays.
The beloved breakfast radio co-host said he was let go by the Adelaide station earlier this month as part of a shake-up to their early morning program.
Mix 102.3 has changed the name of its brekkie show last week from The Ali Clarke Breakfast Show to “Max & Ali in the Morning” – but Lowe says the station didn’t announce he was given the chop.
“Soooo … update on life. You may not have heard, but I was informed that after returning from my Christmas break that I was no longer needed on the Mix 102.3 breakfast show,” Lowe posted on Facebook.
“Also I was told that after 3 years working the Ali Clarke breakfast show I wouldn’t have a role at all Mix in 2024. Umm … Ok ….
“You may not have known this, thats probably because it was never mentioned to anyone out side of the company. So it may seem like nothing happened … lol … But it did.”
Lowe received plenty of support online, including from his mother Cheryl, who described the move by parent company ARN as “ruthless”.
“So many false promises just can’t understand the way they do this to a employee that gave 100 per cent,” she wrote on Facebook.
“He is strong and the talent he has will get him through thanks to all the lovely people in Adelaide for their comments.”
Lowe, who previously co-hosted Nova’s old breakfast show with Dylan Lewis and Hayley Pearson, also thanked everyone for their support, including his former colleague, Ali Clarke.
“To the wonderful, Ali Clarke, I’ve never known anyone to be so caring, supportive, and thoughtful as you have always been but in particular over the past few weeks,” he wrote on Facebook.
“So guess it’s time to find a new role. Hopefully one I can love as much as I did this one.
It’s been a ratings rollercoaster for Mix since Clarke made the switch from ABC Adelaide at the start of 2022.
In the final ratings for 2023, FM rival Triple M’s Roo, Ditts & Loz show – hosted by Mark Ricciuto, Chris Dittmar and Laura O’Callaghan – won breakfast with 16.3 share points.
ABC Adelaide was in second place (11.8), followed by FIVEaa (11.4), while The Ali Clarke Breakfast Show ended up in fourth spot (10.1).
An ARN spokesperson said: “Mix 102.3 unveiled this year’s breakfast show as ‘Max & Ali in the Morning’, bringing Adelaide the most fun start to the day in Adelaide. We thank Shane for his time at Mix and wish him all the best for the future.”
Lowe has been contacted for comment.
