Ali Clarke will return to the airwaves next week following her second bout of breast cancer surgery.
The popular radio host will be back on her Mix 102.3 breakfast show on Monday, after two weeks off to recover from a second mastectomy.
Clarke revealed on November 1 that she was having the surgery as a “safety” precaution, with Seven newsreader Rosanna Mangiarelli stepping into the hot seat alongside co-host Max Burford.
Mangiarelli bid farewell on Friday morning, telling listeners the past fortnight had been an “awesome” experience.
“I’m pretty pleased that Ali is back for all you listeners out there because someone has to keep you guys in line and I haven’t done a very good job of it,” she joked.
“Thank you for holding my hand and being very kind to me.”
Earlier this month, Clarke said the decision to have her second breast removed – about three months after her first mastectomy – was about “taking some control back”.
“For us, it’s a safety thing, it’s also a bit of taking control back, more so for the kids because you know I’m doing this without worrying about cancer and everything else,” the mother-of-three said on Mix.
“Even though that’s in the background, but it’s just the choice we’ve made, and we are very, very comfortable with it.”
In late July, Clarke announced on-air that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. She said there was no history of the disease in her family, but that she had a routine mammogram on the advice of her GP.
Clarke said her doctor had wanted to do a full health check after she went to see them because she was concerned about what she thought were symptoms of perimenopause.
Her announcement resulted in an immediate uptick to the number of women contacting BreastScreen for scans.
The following month, Clarke was back on the airwaves to help launch Mix102.3’s Breast Check Day on the first Friday of every month.
